Understanding Marine Policy

European marine policy is developing and changing rapidly.  In the last 5 years there have been a number of new policies and changes to existing policies. Reading and understanding these policies can be time consuming and challenging. The language is often scientific and technical making it difficult for anyone outside of the policy environment to fully grasp.

This in itself is a barrier to the implementation of the policy. Stakeholders that use the marine environment, whether for work or leisure, are the very people that will be responsible for following the regulations set within these policies. If they are not widely understood, they cannot be successfully delivered.

For us to manage our actions sustainably, we need to understand the policy that guides and governs them. Here we will provide an up-to-date and clear overview of the key pieces of European marine policy.
